Founder and MD of BandBI Phil Walker writes:

The majority of my 33 years working for National Westminster Bank / Royal Bank of Scotland has been spent working with Commercial and Corporate businesses, primarily in front line relationship roles looking after the financial requirements of businesses across the complete spectrum of industry sectors.

During my career, I have enjoyed several leadership roles, running teams of 30+ staff, and indeed have experienced the privilege of setting up 2 new businesses for the Bank, including one offshore in Gibraltar.

For the last 7 years, I have been the Director of Croydon Commercial Business Centre, responsible for approximately 1000 Commercial sized businesses (turnover £1m - £40m per annum) and a team of 30 Relationship Managers and support. This role included very regular direct involvement with my team and customers in assessing both successful businesses looking to grow, and those experiencing problems, to find appropriate financial solutions to all their future requirements.

During this period the Centre enjoyed unparalleled success, not only in terms of exceeding specific financial and business acquisition targets, but also in terms of minimising business failure and achieving great staff morale and teamwork.
